Today I am going to discuss one of the basic necessity of all of us and that is our daily grocery need. Although I have lived in other cities in the past also, but in Noida local kirana stores are less as compared to other cities. Noida has evolved as one of the biggest IT city in India. After Bangalore and Gurgaon, Noida has got many IT companies and corporate offices. I have been staying in Noida since last five years. There are many sectors which are still evolving like sectors on Noida expressway. Some of the sectors are very well developed and crowded (for example - sector 63, Sector 27, Sector 18) In small cities you will find these Kirana stores in every street or sometimes in one street you will find two to three grocery shops. However in Noida this is not the case. Sometimes you will have tough time to find a local grocery or ration shop in your nearby area. This even becomes more difficult for those people who are working couple and they do not have time to do grocery shopping during week days.

Some of the old grocery shop owners have enhanced their business by providing more variety in their stores. They want to compete with supermarkets. When it comes to grocery, prime factor of satisfaction is variety. If you get all the needed products under one roof, nothing like that. I remember an incidence when I was looking for cinnamon powder and it took me nearly three month to just get the powder. I visited so many kirana shops in my area but no one had it. Some of the store keepers did not even know what it is? Finally on multiple requests and followups, one of the shop keeper helped me in getting a small bottle. Grocery shops versus mini stores
In Noida, some of the grocery shop owners have converted their shops in mini stores. These stores are just like mini supermarket where you will have three to four aisles.
For convenience of the customers, baskets or small carts can also be used in these stores. Many such stores are opened in small market of apartment societies. Some have opened these stores in basements of builder floor apartments. The main advantage of these mini stores is that these stores are located just walking distance from our flats. Sometimes while coming back from work you hop in to these stores, do the shopping and make the payment. Their delivery boy deliver the stuff at your place in next one hour. Some of the stores also offer discount on bulk shopping. One of the store in my nearby area launches lucrative promotional offer every month. This keeps the customers excited and make them loyal.
